Strawberry Milk for Valentine's

Valentine's Day is almost here. We don't do much around here, a little chocolate is sure to make an appearance but my kids are at that age where they're too old for all the kiddie stuff but too young to be into the romance side of the holiday (thankfully.)  No boyfriends or girlfriends to worry about yet. Grace is the closest we come to that.

5th grade romance. Do you remember it? The girls do most of the asking. They ask a boy out at the beginning of the day. Dumbfounded, he says sure. They don't talk the rest of the day, Don't even look at each other over lunch, and by the time the day is over, they've "broken up." I had lunch with Grace last week. I sat with her and a few of her friends. The things they talk about. Luckily, boys weren't on their radar  this week. They talked about their teachers and school work and the upcoming Washington DC trip.

I'm glad all my kids will be "single" for This Holiday. That means I get to make them feel special for the day. Remember, we don't do this holiday big but that doesn't mean it's not special. I've got a few things planned during the week to let my kids (and the hubby) know they're special.

I decided to start today. Just a simple glass of strawberry milk. But when you dress up your glass with some sprinkles, it means something. I knew the girls would like it but I was pleasantly surprised when my son gave me an extra hug and my hubby licked his glass completely clean.

Real men and teenage boys do drink pink milk with sprinkles.

Strawberry Milk for Valentine's

2-3 tablespoons Hershey's Strawberry Syrup
8 ounces milk
Karo Syrup
Pretty sprinkles
Whipped cream

Prepare your glasses first. Place about 2 tablespoons sprinkles in a shallow dish or plate. Using your finger, rub the Karo syrup along the rim of your glass. Dip the glass in the sprinkles, being sure to completely cover the rim. In a separate glass or measuring cup, combine strawberry syrup and milk. Pour into prepared glass. Top with whipped cream and a few extra sprinkles.

I'm sharing at some of these great parties.

  1. I used to love strawberry milk when I was growing up, but I haven't had it in years. I bet I would still like it if the glass was decorated this pretty. Looks like your family had a real treat!
